making memories

family life is full of major and minor crises --
the ups and downs of health, success and failure in career, marriage, and divorce --
and all kinds of characters. it is tied to places and events and histories.
with all of these felt details, life etches itself into memory and personality.
it's difficult to imagine anything more nourishing to the soul.

i'm home now after a long weekend in utah with the gerber clan. it was an amazing weekend -
full of fun in the snow, great food, and lots of talking and laughing.
stories were made that will be etched into our minds forever and retold amongst the gang at future gatherings.

one story stems around a few of the guys getting their snowmobiles stuck on a steep and hard to get to mountain which jay named 'stuckback mountain'. another was watching papa g getting thrown into the jacuzzi with ALL his clothes on, and there were a few hilarious moments on the slopes as well. i sure wish those few who couldn't make it this time could have been part of it all. we missed them.
with all this fun, there was one little person who wasn't enjoying himself. s
cout came up with a horrible cold the second day we arrived.
he was miserable and reverted back to the days of infancy where all he really wanted was to be held.
lucky for us, there were lots of open arms.

sheila and auntie shelley were the best. they cared for scoutie which allowed allowed c and i to take finn tubing and even get a few hours of snowboarding in together. it was very much appreciated. i can't thank them enough.
every time i get together with the gerber clan, i'm reminded that i married into a great family and that i should never take them for granted. they are fun to be around, big-hearted, love my boys, and have always made me feel part of their circle. a girl couldn't ask for anything more from the family she marries into. i know i have it good -i have had friends share their stories or nightmares.
a BIG thanks to trevor and shannon for hosting us all at their cabin, and for all the work that goes with this!   i am already looking forward to next year's gathering.

I'm a Southern California mom to 2 boys and a wifey to my long-time love. I work full-time and life is a bit crazy, but I strive to remember to take time to enjoy the little things, because in the end, it's those things that will matter most.
